Step Organization organized a round table on the quota system for women in Kurdistan Region in cooperation with the University of Duhok
Step Organization for Democracy and Elections, in cooperation with the Center for Gender Equality Studies at the University of Duhok and the Center for Legal and Political Studies at the College of Law, organized a round table at the Conference Center at the University of Duhok on 10/16/2023 entitled (The impact of the women’s quota system on women’s political participation in the Kurdistan Region). This was under the supervision of Dr. Daoud Atroshi, President of the University of Duhok, who gave a speech at the beginning of the session in which he welcomed the participants.
The first axis is the political philosophy of allocating seats for women and regulating them in the constitution, presented by Dr. Renjber Jamil Sheikho, Director of the Center for Legal and Political Studies at the College of Law at the University of Duhok.
The second axis is the quota system for women in the Kurdistan region and its impact on women’s participation in the political process. That was presented by Dr. Jinar Babiker, Professor of the Faculty of Political Science at Saladin University.
- The third axis: The experience of women’s quota in the democratic process in Iraq. Presented by the former member of the Iraqi parliament, Ms. Ashwaq Al-Jaf.
- fourth Axis; The influence of civil society organizations in activating the women’s quota system and women’s political participation. Presented by Mr. Dilgash Sadiq, Assistant Director of STEP Organization for Democracy and Elections.
A wide and deep discussion took place among the attendees, who were dons, university professors, former members of the Iraqi Parliament and Kurdistan Parliament, and directors of many non-governmental organizations.
